Nedalco's history

Nedalco’s history dates back to the nineteenth century and is closely tied to the heritage of sugar manufacturers in the Netherlands.
The first Dutch sugar factory was founded in 1858. The by-product molasses was sold to France. But when France introduced import limitations, the sugar manufacturers began looking for ways to process molasses in the Netherlands. This led to the establishment of the public limited company "Zuid-Nederlandsche Melasse-Spiritusfabriek" in Bergen op Zoom on July 18, 1899.

The corporation has developed remarkably over the last century. The following dates are just a few of the highpoints in the Nedalco Group’s history:

1899  First production of alcohol in Bergen op Zoom
1968  Launch of production location in Delfzijl
1983  Introduction of the company name Nedalco B.V.
1987  Replacement of the distillation/rectification unit in Bergen op Zoom
1993  Commencement of manufacture of grain alcohol in Delfzijl
1994  Implementation of new fermenting unit in Bergen op Zoom
1995  Nedalco obtains the ISO 9002 certificate
1997  Acquisition of Orbat Distillery in Italy
1998  Commencement of manufacture of grain alcohol in Bergen op Zoom
1999  Nedalco celebrates its 100th anniversary and achieves the ‘Royal’ status
2000  Joint-venture with BrüggemannAlcohol
2005  Launch of production location in Sas van Gent
2007  Launch of production location in Manchester
2009  Acquisition of remaining 50% shares in BrüggemannAlcohol
2009  Nedalco celebrated its 110th anniversary!
2010  Final production Bergen op Zoom
