Enzymes that hydrolyze feedstocks
Enzymes are obtained from enzyme-producing companies and tested on pretreated feedstocks. Most of these enzymes are commercially available, but some experimental preparations are also used. Our focus is, of course, on hemicellulolytic preparations, since these are the enzymes involved in releasing C5 sugars. R&D at Nedalco has established good partnerships with the laboratories of Prof. Gruppen and Dr. Schols at Wageningen University. 
Nedalco has access to the latest in advanced equipment for performing classified research. Our approach is to test enzymes on hydrolysates for their effectiveness in releasing xylose and arabinose along with other sugars from polymeric sugar compounds. A number of different enzymes are required for the complete degradation of hemicellulose.
